Color pencil gives me better control of color at my age (which is 83) and I am able to produce this wonderful dogs pure trusting look with a minimum of strokes. Art gives me great joy so sharing a piece that others like gives me a reason to keep going! Thank you.

This painting followed a practice watercolor painting I had done of a sweet little lamb. As a Christian, I decided I wanted to do the symbolic animal recognition of Jesus being the Sacrificial Lamb as well as the Lion of Judah. It was extremely exciting as I worked on the painting to create a softness, yet the boldness of a Lion.

Title or Location: I'm That Girl
I'm That Girl was created during a time when I was reclaiming my voice, power, and space ? as a woman, an artist, and a Black creative. The subject?s expression is calm but confident, meeting the viewer with quiet authority. Her thick, natural dreadlocks were painted to be bold and beautifully present ? not styled to fit expectations, but to honor culture, roots, and realness. The color blocks behind her represent layered identity: strength, softness, experience, and grounding. She?s not aski

I've always loved the soft tones of ancient Chinese and Japanese art. This one started as 2 panels and eventually added a third panel to cover a larger space. The clouds were done over many sessions to get the effect that I'm happy with. I don't often paint with such a limited palette but this was fun.

This little hummingbird is colored pencil hand cut and pasted on a watercolor background. My family always had hummingbird feeders out because we loved to watch the little things zip around. I made the background several years ago. I was playing around with watercolor and really loved the blue, green, and purple together. I had no idea what to put on it so it sat in my studio until few weeks ago. I have had a lot of people ask for hummingbird drawings and when I saw the background I thought tha

I spent the summer of 2024 developing this art form. I am free-forming epoxy resin and fusing. This allows me to layer and make 3D sculptures and relief from a medium not typically suited for this purpose. At this time, I have not found anyone else who has done this with epoxy resin. It appears to be glass, but it's not.Artist Statement:Virginia Alden's artistry is a vibrant synthesis of nature and craftsmanship, where each piece is meticulously hand-formed or painted from epoxy resin. I?m passionate about the ocean and lived on it a majority of my life. I would even take my children to observe sea life, in several locations on the coast..Tide pools being one of my favorite! We could observe anemones, sea slugs, starfish and more. Years ago I applied to a school in their Marine Sciences program. I wasn?t accepted because I was a woman!Yeah and that dates me a little. The passion will never die.
